Tick-borne Encephalitis Vaccination
The Tick-borne Encephalitis (TBE) vaccine helps protect against a viral infection spread by tick bites, particularly in forested and rural areas of Europe and parts of Asia.
The vaccine is recommended for travellers planning to camp, hike, or spend extended time outdoors in high-risk regions.
What is Tick-borne Encephalitis & How is it Spread?
Tick-borne Encephalitis is a viral infection that affects the central nervous system and can lead to serious complications, including meningitis and encephalitis. It is transmitted through the bite of infected ticks, typically found in grassy, wooded, or rural areas.
TBE is most common in parts of Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe, as well as in some areas of Russia and East Asia. The risk is higher during the warmer months when ticks are most active. Travellers planning outdoor activities in these regions are strongly advised to consider vaccination.

What to Expect from Our Tick-borne Encephalitis Vaccination Service
The Tick-borne Encephalitis vaccine is available at D H Roberts Pharmacy as a three-dose course. The second dose is given 1 to 3 months after the first, and the third dose is recommended 5 to 12 months later for long-term protection.
Here’s how the service works:
1. Complete the Travel Health Questionnaire: Start by completing our online form to share your travel plans and medical history.
2. Consultation and Review: An independent prescriber will review your form. If appropriate, a prescription will be issued and sent directly to the pharmacy.
3. Schedule Your Appointment: Please contact D H Roberts Pharmacy two days after submitting your form to book your vaccination appointment.
The Tick-borne Encephalitis vaccine is priced at £65 per dose. If you're travelling to high-risk areas for outdoor activities, early protection is highly recommended.
